Leicester-Shire & Rutland Active Ageing Week

In celebration of the Department of Work and Pensions Full of Life Campaign, UK Older Persons Day and the British Heart Foundation's concept of Active Ageing; partners across the county are working together to deliver Leicester-Shire & Rutland's Active Ageing Week.

During the week there will be a number of activities taking place in order to encourage people to be active in later life. From walking, dancing and swimming to seated aerobics, bowls and Pilates, there is an activity for everyone to enjoy!

Activities are not just taking place during Active Ageing Week. There are lots of opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity on a regular basis. Active Together (Leicestershire), Active Rutland (Rutland) and Active Lifestyle Scheme (Leicester) are programmes designed to encourage you to become physically active. Kurling Tournament

Get your team of 4 and battle it out to become Leicestershire's Kurling Champions! Suitable for all abilities.

Cost: Free (funded through Leicester-shire and Rutland Sport)

Oldest Athlete and Active Participants Celebration

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS) is set to celebrate our oldest athletes and most active participants in style!

As part of this fantastic Active Ageing programme, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) is pleased to announce that the 3rd 'Celebration of Leicester-Shire & Rutland's Oldest Athlete and Active Participants' will be taking place on Thursday 2nd October 2014. This prestigious event is being sponsored once again by Imago and will be held at The Link Hotel, Loughborough.

Active Ageing Events

The British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity is working to develop the concept of Active Ageing and have launched a programme of Active Ageing Events designed to:

  • Provide a national and local profile to celebrate and promote the concept of Active Ageing
  • Provide support for local Active Ageing events and programmes
  • Stimulate debate and policy on active ageing
  • Ensure that older people are included in celebratory events and festivals designed to leave a health and physical activity legacy for the 2012 London Olympic Games and similar events.

Full of Life / UK Older People's Day

Full of Life is a celebration of the opportunities and achievements of older people and their contribution to our society in tackling negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes.

UK Older Person's Day takes place on 1st October 2014!
