National Championships 2013

On Sunday I competed at the National Race Walking Championships in Coventry, where I finished in second place in a personal best time of 26.25 for 5km. Since February of this year, I have knocked over a minute off of my personal best time, which is due to a lot of training both before, during and after the Leeds Camp in early April. It was a great race, and I even surprised myself at how well I performed on the day. I can't wait to carry on training and I aim to get my times down even further!

Leeds Training Camp

Last week I went up to the National Center for race walking, to train with the GB Squad and the National coaches. Previously, I had got a PB at the YAG Coventry race on the 3rd March, so at this camp I wanted to build on that ready for the National Championships. It went very well, and throughout the sessions I felt and did great. The national coach seemed to be very impressed also! I got to meet some lovely people, set targets and trained hard. I loved every minute of it and can't wait to pay another visit shortly.

National 10km Champs YAG

Yesterday I competed in the National 10km Championships in East London- but because of my age had to compete in the 5km event that they had also put on. This race did not count towards anything league wise, but provided me with much needed experience in competing with a field of more experienced walkers. I finished 1st in the U17G's in a time of 27.54 which I am very pleased with, considering I am still not yet back up to great fitness! I really enjoyed the race- and got to compete alongside Olympic athlete Jo Jackson which is really inspiring!

AAA England Athletics Championships- Bedford

On the 19th of August I competed at the AAA Champs in Bedford (U17 5km)- in a staggering 32 degree heat! The race was tough even though it was only 10.30 in the morning, but the organizers were great and kept us all topped up with drinks, sponges etc. I finished in 2nd position in a time of 29.40, which was not quick but considering the circumstances was great:) Looking forward to the English Schools soon!

Training and Current Progress Part 3!

Money from the last grant Go Gold awarded me has helped considerably- I have invested in a new sports watch which allows me to train harder and more precisely, and the money also went towards my trip to the Isle of Man to compete, where I got a pb and allowed me the opportunity to compete with international athletes. Now the Olympics are underway I look forward to watching thewalks, next weekend we are going down to watch the 20km& 50km- so look for Joanna Jackson in the women's, she's a great inspiration! I will be sure to blog soon!

Training and Current Progress Part 2!

The next race I have coming up is on the 19th of August which is the AAA Under 17 Championships in Bedford.Although this is not my main race of the year- it is still very important, and me and my coach have been doing a lot to prepare and working hard considering there are very little races to compete in! Now I'm back home after I've been away I look forward to focusing even more on race walking, as exams etc before the summer holidays had started restricted me slightly to how I'd like to train.

Training and Current Progress Part 1!

Training at the moment has been going great- I've just got back from Thailand where I got the experience training in warm weather conditions, which since I have been back has allowed me to train even harder! One of the reasons I haven't been blogging is because there has been very few races- now that the summer is here the 'race walking scene' tends to die down, and especially now that the Olympics are on and a lot of the focus has been on that!
