10 k championship

I recently ran in the county 10k, the race started well running 5 minute mile pace for the first 14 laps. It was very hot on the day and over the next two laps the other runners caught up with and overtook me, on lap 16 I had to pull up as by now the heat had got to me and I was feeling sick. I am disappointed that the heat got to me as I was on track for a new P.B. I will do another 10k later in the year, hopefully with a better result.

Mare Nosturm

I had such a good experience at the Mare Nostrum meet. The team atmosphere was great and I really enjoyed competing with world class athletes, I learnt a lot that will hopefully help me in future meets. I also had some pretty good swims considering I wasn't tapered, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens at this years summer nationals.

Superseries Tennis Finals

Yesterday I went to the Tennis School Games Super-Series finals to watch and talk to the children competing in it. The standard was amazing and they were all lovely to speak to. Really enjoyed seeing the competitive environment in which these young players play and was really nice to hand out medals to them at the end.

Belgium 3

3rd racing trip to Belgium and an evening criterium on Saturday followed by a classic 70km race on Sunday at Kluisbergen. The photo shows me just losing 2nd place despite my crazy lunge. This was after 70 kms of hard racing and so I was pleased to even be able to contest the sprint. The winner - Netherlands national TT champ. That is it for Belgium as an under 16. I have raced 6 tough races and not been lower than 5th - I have got to be pleased with that!

I had an amazing time last night practising okuri-ashi-barai. Also, thank you for making me Athlete of the Week at the start of the month. My next competition is The West of England Age Band Open in July and I'm looking forward to fighting again.

British Grand Prix of Race Walking

This Sunday was my first race back after a difficult few months. At the start of the year I was injured for around 12 weeks, and recently I've been finding it tough going psychologically after finishing my University exams. However, I was determined to race- even if it was only over 5km! I finished 3rd in the Women's race in a slow time, however I was just really pleased that I could finish and keep a positive mindset throughout. I hope to build up fitness over the summer so that I can come back next season happy, strong and healthy:)

End of exams

After completing my final exams this summer I have now completed my Coaching and Sports Science degree at Nottingham Trent University and I will be graduating with first class honours in a bachelor of science, which I am extremely happy about! I have secured an internship at Nottingham Forest Football club where I will be working part time as a Sports Scientist, alongside training to be a S&C coach with Sport981, giving me busy time ahead post graduation, which I am excited to begin!

Looking forward to full time training again

After a busy few weeks of my GCSE exams I am looking forward to getting back to training full time.

I did have England Squad training at the beginning of the month but reduced some of my training due to revision.

I am attending a team competition and representing the Midland area this coming weekend.

Thanks again

54TH SETTE COLLI MEET 23 TO 25 JUNE 2017 IN ROME

I travelled to Rome on 22 June with the Loughborough National Squad to compete in the Sette Colli Meet. I entered 3 events, 200 freestyle, 400 IM and 200 backstroke. The time in the 200 freestyle was just off my PB, but considering we are still in hard training I was pleased with this. In the 400 IM I came 3rd in the 'B' final and in the 200 backstroke I came 5th in the 'B' final. The competition was very strong but I was pleased with my swims.

Elite European Triathlon Championships

After a productive season so far I was selected for the European Elite Championships at the last minute. I was targeting U23 Elite European Championships so this was a big step. I raced for what ever I could get. I did not have the greatest race but ran well from 2nd pack to finish 21st (So within the top 3rd of the starters). I also was part of the mixed relay team that came 5th (This is a new Olympic event now!). Racing and training in the right direction. Next race U23 elite Europeans.

British National TriathlonChamps

A week after Madrid World Cup my legs were always going to hurt. Managed to breakaway when it came down to the run. In the end it was a 3 way sprint for the medals. My legs were not quite recovered enough for a real high intensity sprint so I couldn't quite kick like I would normally so I finished 3rd. Still an acceptable result.

Elite Junior European Triathlon Championships

As my first major championships as a Junior, I put a lot of effort into preparing, wanting a top 15 finish.

I had a good start, getting clear water but after 200m, the swim turned violent, having my hat and goggles pulled off.

I had a good T1, making up places after the swim, getting with a good group of girls on the bike.

We caught many cyclists over the 20km, by the end forming the third pack.

Going onto the run I felt strong for the first 1km but then started to feel ill, unable to push myself further, finishing 27th.

Mid-season Update

Since the Loughbough International I have raced in London at a BAL running 21.17 from lane 2 and then at the Midlands champs came away with two silvers in the 100m & 200m running 10.37 & 20.73, both windy. At the national under 23 champs I ran well in the heats, semis and final but stepped on the line in the 200m so got DQ in the final after coming close 2nd running 20.67. On the British Champs next week, feeling ready for it, BBC2 2.15pm if you'd like to watch.

Racing between exams...

Midway through a busy period for me with A-level exams, I managed to squeeze in a short trip down to Bedford for the National 3000m Championships. It was an exciting race, with the leader having a 12 second lead with only 1km to go but I was able to close the gap and move into the lead with 100m to go. What made the whole feeling even nicer was that one of my best mates crossed the finish line third so it was great to share the podium together. Next up, a triathlon on the 1st July in the Netherlands!

National qualifying times

I was really pleased with my times at the East Midlands Championships as it was the last meet in the Nationals Qualifying window. I managed to get 6 qualifying times for the British Championships in July 2017 and this is what I have been striving to achieve since the beginning of the season in September 2016. I hope to do well at the British Nationals and have been training hard and trying to alter my nutrition to achieve the best results I can.

Time to consolidate

After a busy few weeks of domestic and international competition I have got some time to concentrate on training. So this means reassessing what I'm doing and what I need to achieve before my next competition which is the British Championships in Liverpool. I've also just had confirmation that I will be competing for GB out in Portugal in the Loule Cup again this year.

Training hard in the gym

It is a quiet time of year for gymnastics competitions but Laura is continuing to train hard in the gym ready for the start of the next competition season. She has been working hard to build up her previous foot injury by doing lots of conditioning exercises 👍

Summer Training

Great to finish my exams and get back into training.

Just entered my first two tournaments in Bulgaria - for mid August, plus associated training camp. So will be away for nearly three weeks in total.

Getting to the gym as much as I can plus on court - did a marathon 4 hour session yesterday - both gym and court work!

Not much fencing recently

The start of June has been a slow month. Not a lot of training as exams were still going, tried to fit in club nights and training around revision. No competitions this month to concentrate on the exams.

Over the summer I will be training regularly and competing. Nationals are looming which is a busy weekend for the cadet and junior rankings. Despite the little training I hope to have a good performance that will improve my rankings.

Summer will provide a good opportunity to work on smaller issues and really concentrate on fitness as build up for cadet season in October.
