Let the Games Begin!

Over 1,160 of our most talented young athletes and disabled athletes from across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland are going for Gold at Leicester-Shire & Rutland's biggest and most prestigious school sport event.

These secondary aged aspiring athletes, representing 60 schools, have qualified to compete in the Spring Championships, taking place this Friday 22nd March at Loughborough University. The action-packed event, full of Olympic-style sport and presentations, aims to build on the legacy of the London 2012 Games, which will be supported by over 120 young leaders and volunteers.

The young athletes will be representing our 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks, in 9 sports across 20 competitions, all of which will have qualified from Level 2 area finals, to participate in this Level 3 County Final Championships.

The Championships will begin with an 'Opening Ceremony' featuring Team GB Paralympic Sprinter Sam Ruddock, School Games Mascot 'Dazzle', the School Games Torch and performances from the winners of the Leicester-Shire & Rutland's 'Got Talent' Competition, 'Jessie Auciello' (singer), 'EM Studio' (dance group) and 'Yoana Yankova' (hula hooping).

The Games culminate in a 'Closing Ceremony' which will feature the presentation of trophies and Gold Medals to the winners, Silver and Bronze Medals to 2nd and 3rd place and trophies to the 'Spirit of the Games' winners, from each competition.

Parents and spectators are encouraged and welcome to attend the Games, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, to support their children in what will be the largest sporting occasion in the region.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games is part of the national 'Sainsbury's School Games' programme of competitive sport that is open to all young people in every school from across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. It is a celebration of competitive sport that involves young people aged 5-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds.
