There is a wide range of activities take place across Melton, see below for more information or click on the timetable link to find out what’s going on and when.

As a result of Active Together Melton securing extra funding through the Leicestershire Local Area Agreement and NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland the Active Together Melton team are working to enhancing the opportunities on offer to people in Melton. In the coming months we are hoping to implement the following projects:

  • Dance Project
  • New Age Kurling
  • Swim & Play Sessions
  • And much much more......
  • Health Checks

Free health checks are being offered at a number of sites in Melton. This initiative from Active Together Melton will provide an opportunity for people to have their blood pressure, weight, body mass index and body fat percentage. The aim is to give people a better understanding of their health and provide tips on how to improve it. The health checks will be run by one of the Council’s Physical Activity Development Officers and there will be leaflets on a number of topical health issues available to take away.

  • Senior's Walking Group

The senior walks take place Thursday. There are two types of walk which are indicated by heart levels. The one heart level walks average between 30 minutes to 1 hour on good surfaces and fairly flat routes with no stiles. The walks are always at Melton Country Park and are suitable to newcomers to walking. Meet at Melton Country Park visitor centre at the end of Wymondham way at 1.30pm. The two heart levels walks are up to 90 minutes covering a variety of paths, which maybe uphill and over stiles. Paths maybe uneven or muddy in places, and appropriate footwear must be worn. Meet at Leicester Road Sports ground at 1.30pm to travel to the destination. Both walks have front and back leaders so all walkers can find their own pace.

  • New Age Kurling

New Age Kurling is a relatively new sport, played similar to curling, but adapted so that it can be played indoors on any smooth, flat surface, such as a sports hall, rather than on ice. This game is loved by all ages and is suitable for able-bodied and wheelchair users alike and can be played as mixed teams as well.

Sessions will be starting on the 11th of November for 10 weeks (excluding 25th Nov, 23rd & 30th of December). They are taking place in the King Edward VII Sports Centre on Burton Road at 11am. Each session will only cost £2.50, or you can book all 10 sessions for only £20. It is a great opportunity to get active, have fun and learn a new sport!

  • Aqua Tai Chi

Aqua Tai Chi is a brand new activity for Melton. It is a blend of the benefits of water fitness and the graceful fluid movements of Tai Chi. Aqua Tai Chi helps improve muscular strength, flexibility, balance, co-ordination and posture. On a psychological level, benefits include increased energy, focus and relaxation.

The classes are particularly suitable for seniors and pregnant women due to the slower, relaxing nature of the session. The water helps to aid buoyancy, thus reducing pressure on the joints.

The Active Together Team in Melton Borough Council, part of Active Melton and Leicester-shire and Rutland Sport, are starting classes on Wednesday 23rd November, 11:30-12:30 in Waterfields Leisure Pool. The sessions will run for 10 weeks and only cost £3.85 per session. Advanced booking is advised, as the classes are expected to fill up quickly.
