In the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, your school has the chance to boost your existing work in school sport to create a year-round calendar of competition for all your students.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games is a new approach to competitive school sport designed to motivate and enthuse all young people across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

The School Games, which started in September 2011, is a celebration of competitive sport that will involve all young people in years 3 to 13, of all abilities and backgrounds. The School Games is made up of four levels of competition:

Intra-School Competitions

Level 1 (Pathway to Level 2)

Sporting competition between house teams, form groups, or in PE lessons can be the first experience for many young people. Level 1 builds on the existing year-round programme of regular intra-school competition that culminates in a ‘School Games Day’. This should beArrow.jpg available to all young people, regardless of their age or ability.

Those interested are encouraged to contact their PE Departments.

Inter-School Competition

Level 2 (Pathway to Level 3)

Individuals or teams are selected to represent their school, to compete in leagues and tournaments, against other local schools in their ‘partnership area’.

Those interested are encouraged to contact their PE Departments and SchoolArrow.jpg Games Organisers.

Super-Series Finals and School Games Championships

Level 3

Winning teams from Level 2 leagues and tournaments will represent their ‘partnership area’ at county-wide level finals events (inc. City & Rutland schools):

  • Super-Series Finals are running throughout the year in a selection of sports, feeding to regional and national competitions.
  • Click HERE to view the County Level 3 Calendar. (As at 22.02.12)

National Multi-Sport Event

Level 4

The country’s most talented athletes of school age will be specially selected by their National Governing Body of Sport (NGB) to compete in a national finals day in May 2012.

Please ensure that you liaise directly with your PE Departments and School Games Organisers within your partnership area to make sure that you have the opportunity to be involved in the 2012 Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games at Levels 1, 2 and 3.
