The 4x400m team, Ben Higgins, Kyle Calhoun, Ollie Thorner and me. Kyle got us off to a very good start putting us into 2nd place, Ollie who had an extremely hard group of runners in his leg of the relay dropped us to last, Ben got us back into 4th and when I received the baton I did all I could but couldn't make up the gap. However, the team in 4th got DQ so we came away with the bronze. Massive thanks to LRSport.

I have now finished my last training session before the School Games. It was a tough session but I think that I am now ready for the event. I am excited about my first school games and am ready to get to the track.

I am only a few days away from the School Games athletics and I am getting in the last few training sessions before the event. This is my first year competing at this event and I am excited to see what it's like. I am this year not competing at Bedford for the nationals there due to other commitments but I also think that this is good because it allows me to have full rest ready for the school games.

This month I have been away on a sports tour for hockey. The last athletics competition I competed in was the English school's competition. At the start of next seasons competitions, I am going to focus on getting my speed up with 60m and 200m in the indoor season and then towards the outdoor season focus on getting down my 100m and 200m times. I would like to do this because if I have the speed over 100m and 200m then I can improve my endurance. My aim for next season is to qualify for the final of English schools.

I am currently on a tour to South Africa for hockey, I am unable to do specific athletics training but I am taking part in lots of sport here at high altitude. I will resume normal training when I return to the uk. Blogging is hard due to the poor internet connection.

English schools was an amazing experience and being a year young I was looking to go as far as I could. Unfortunately, I didn't run the time I wanted to get and didn't qualify for the final. However, it was a great step in the right direction and I hope that next year I can come back stronger and faster and be able to get further in the competition.

County Championships Saturday
On Saturday I competed in the County Schools Athletics at Saffron Lane in the 400m. The 400m had a lot of competitors meaning that I had a heat in the morning and then hopefully a final in the afternoon. I ran the heat at slow speed to make sure that I had the energy for the final. I qualified and in the final ran a time of 49.7 placing me 6th in the country for the bottom age of the u17 group. I hope to qualify for the English Schools National Competition.

County Championships 200m
This is about my race in the country championships in the 200m. On the day of the race, I knew that I would have to run faster than I have ever had to win. My previous PB before running at the counties was 23.3. In the heat, I ran a time of 22.8 which was faster than I had ever run and I still had more.In the final, I ran a time of 22.16w winning by a very close margin. I was happy to win being the bottom age.

A great first day at the Leicestershire and Rutland County Championships running the 400m. The conditions were perfect and I felt fresh for the race, I went into the race as the bottom age of u17 and I was very happy to finish first and get a new PB of 50.1. I am now looking forward to the 200m on the Sunday, well done to all the other competitors. The GO GOLD program helped me fund the starting blocks that I got for the race, thanks for the help.

I am currently on holiday but I am still able to train, the beach is a good place to run along and the sand makes in harder. There is also a gym that I can use. My upcoming counties race on the 14th and 15th May is almost here and to make sure I am completely ready to compete I am training whenever I can and am making sure my diet is correct. I am looking forward to the counties and I feel that I am ready for this event.

Improving my 400m
When running my 400m at Loughborough I had some points I need to work on, one of these being the start of my race. When running the 400m, you need to put yourself in a good position by getting out of the blocks quickly and running the first 100m quickly. Another aspect that I need to improve on is the last 50m of the race. To run quicker than the time that I ran I need to have more endurance for the last stretch. I hope to see an improvement in my next race after working on these.

I want to start by saying thank you to GO GOLD for the funding and the opportunities that they are giving me. I recently competed in the Loughborough open meet in the 400m. This was my first 400m of the season for me and I was looking forward to the race to see what time I could post and to see the work of my winter training pay off. Not ever having run a 400m before and being in the bottom age group I was happy to post a time of 51.53 winning my heat.

This month I have been increasing the amount of training I have been doing. I have also been practicing my block starts and I am competing at the end of this month. The aim is to build up my strength for the main competitions and I feel that I am beginning to get my stamina and speed up.

This month I am beginning to increase my training load. I am looking to start running one competition this month and see how my training is going. I feel that my improvements this year are greater than they were last year.

This year I have decided not to compete in the indoor season and make my full focus to the competitions in the summer, these being English schools and the Bedford nationals. I decided to do this because I am the bottom age group this year and I am looking to train hard through every month instead of having to compete in other major competitions that will distract from my training. This does not mean I will not compete, it means I will only compete in smaller competitions.
