An exciting month!

29th Apr, 2021

This month has been pretty busy, we are in full swing with our lightning training, training twice a week and gym. We had our first match last weekend which was so nice to play a match again after so long and we came away with a win!

Also, we had England Roses Academy selection camp where the long squad was cut down into the Roses Academy squad for 2021 and pleased to be selected. I'm so grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to what the rest of the year brings.

Carrying on to work hard as the NPL matches begin and can't wait to see what we achieve.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

Easter

26th Apr, 2021

Over Easter break at home, I spent lots of time on the water, club racing and some training. Along with sailing my laser I completed my Dingy instructor course but we were only able to complete the single handed side of the course to allow for social distancing, but I have got the single hander dingy instructor qualification.

When I was at home I increased my cycling distance and decreased my running mileage, to give my legs a bit of the rest, but now I am back in Durham I am running more and cycling less.

Racing -good and bad!

25th Apr, 2021

A couple of weeks ago I had my first mountain bike race of the year. It did take a little while to get into it, it felt so strange and I had to get my confidence back. I pushed on and was happy to take the win.

Two weeks on and I raced again but not so lucky this time. With heavy legs and feeling under the weather I only completed the first two laps before I gave in and decided to stop. On the plus side the laps I did were some of the fastest on the day by a female but I just didn't think I could complete the 75 minute race. With little racing around I am disappointed but hoping I can get some more racing in next month which is a juggle with trying to do my exams at school, until the next time...

First road race in over a year!

21st Apr, 2021

Last Saturday I raced my first road race since before the first lockdown. During the race I was aggressive and attacked as well as chasing down other attacks. I managed to jump across to a lone breakaway rider and got into a breakaway for half a lap, unfortunately we got bought back to the group but it was fun to get into a break. I was really well positioned going into the final corner, however I got swamped on the chicane just before the finish. I sprinted to 6th place and 3rd Junior with room for improvement. I am confident that I can improve on my result in the next race in a couple of weeks. This race gave me confidence in my ability and was a great start to the season!

Judo Normality ? 2021

21st Apr, 2021

Beginning April 12th there was a start to normality in judo. I went to another club for extra training on Wednesday, but as of bubbles I trained with my dad on a separate mat, where we worked really hard and did some strangles on each other. Then on Saturday I went to my club and did some contact judo 🥋 for the first time in a year in somebody from my club! Then the rules were lifted even more and I was able to train contact with the other judo club again, so I trained on Monday as well and did some contact there too. I am so happy we are back to some sort of normality and can’t wait for competitions to start again!!

Play resumes

20th Apr, 2021

Things are starting to get back to normal. Two LCFC training sessions a week and a TASS S&C session once a week. Plus just getting back into the gym with Playermade too.

We fitted in a friendly with Notts County U18's before our opening game with Derby County U18's in the aptly titled Covid Cup group matches. We won that 2-1. WBA next week.

Leicester performed well in both games and I feel like I'm getting some match fitness back. I was pleased to score a few goals from open play and a free kick.

England are keeping in touch with online meetings and education but it looks like the next proper training camp will be in July to start preparing for our U17's Euro tournament later this year.

British Swimming Selection Meet 2021 update

20th Apr, 2021

Great racing last week at the London Aquatics Centre. My results were very encouraging after such a strange year, full of change. Day 1, I raced the 400 free, getting a new lifetime best in the heat, a massive time drop. This gave me a great lane in the Open final where I bettered my heat time, so another lifetime best! Day 2 was the 800 free where I raced a lifetime best, making me the 4th fastest 19 yr male ever on British Swimming rankings, to race this event. 2 days off then, where I had to stay in my room after practice swims, even to eat. It's a challenge then not to over think the next race. The last evening, I finished off with the 1500 free, just outside my PB, but a season's best. Lots to build on now in the next big block of training.

Races Back On

9th Apr, 2021

Exciting news, it looks like racing can begin again soon with the first race in May in Wales. Training in the pool can also restart on the 12th. I've enjoyed lots of cycling while the running injury is still a problem. It does seem to be gradually improving but I am a long way off my running peak at the moment. Thank you for your support over the past year .It has helped me buy new kit as I have grown another few inches.

Back on the water!

3rd Apr, 2021

I have been lucky to have a really strong period of training. Last Saturday, I did a 2000m test on the rowing machine and got a new PB! I was really pleased that all the hard training I have been doing whilst in lockdown paid off! Especially considering I had only been doing proper training sessions on the rowing machine for three weeks, after having nearly four months training on a turbo trainer twice a day due to a rib stress fracture. This week I have been able to get back out in my single and it is so lovely to get back out on the water! My coach and I are really happy with my training at the minute and are very excited for upcoming racing, in particular the trials for the U23 World Championships, in late May.

It has been so good to be back with my training group and back on the track this week! It was so refreshing to return to group training, long may it continue! I hope you all are enjoying the relaxation of restrictions safely.
