Rest period

I've had two weeks off following my final race of the season. I am now into my second week of training as it gradually builds up volume again ready for a solid winter block.

My 2 weeks off was cramped with studies I had neglected whilst racing. I have really had to knuckle down and get on with my dissertation the aim being that most of my degree coursework is done prior to the season kicking off again after my winter training block.

Ups and downs - October 2017

The Miller Hallet competition was a ranking event for the U20's squad. A men's open the field was strong and the competition tough. I didn't do as nearly as well as I had hoped to; on the day neither my distance nor timing were right. I am still ranked 16th in the U20s - high enough to be selected as a reserve for Luxembourg; next goal the top 12 and into the travelling squad.

I am working hard on my mobility and flexibility at the moment as this is something which I am not a natural at and I have to work hard to try and improve especially because I am a hurdler and I will starting event specific training soon going over the u20 height hurdles for the first time!

The end of my 2017 season

After finishing my junior triathlon racing on a high with another bronze medal at the World Junior Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam, I was off to Jersey for my final triathlon of the year. Rotterdam went very well, especially considering the awful conditions we had to race in (11-degree air temperature and 15-degree water temperature with refreshing rain to ensure we stayed cold) so I was in good shape leading into the Super League Triathlon. I had a great weekend but unfortunately crashed out of the eliminator race on the final day of racing… Onwards and upwards for next year!

Tenerife and Training

Tomorrow I'll be flying out to Tenerife as a part of the AASE swim Camp. It's going to be a week of hard training but I'm really looking forward to getting all the hard work under my belt, as I feel as though I'm in a very good position for this time of year. I'd like to thank go gold for their funding this year as it has helped fund me to go on this camp.

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL OPEN MEET 21 AND 22 OCTOBER 2017

I travelled to Manchester on Friday 20 October to compete in the Manchester International Open Meet from 21 to 22 October 2017. I entered 5 events – 200 IM, 200 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. I qualified for all 5 finals and swam in 4. I improved on my times in each of the finals, but as we are still in hard training I was not too disappointed with my swims.

Misterton Hall Cyclo-cross- 1st

On Sunday I raced in West Midlands Cyclo-cross League at Misterton Hall. I'd raced there several weeks ago and finished 2nd, not bad considering I'd had a season off from this specific cycling discipline.
I attacked from the off and secured an early lead. I was able to hold on to my lead to take the overall win :-)

GoGold Talent Camp

Last week I attended the first GoGold talent camp and I found it really useful, as an athlete wanting to make his sport a career the workshops that were put on came at a really important time for me. With teaching on S& C, media, nutrition and psychology I could take something form them all, I would highly recommend this in the future. Thanks GoGold

Grading and Competition

On the 7th, I took part in the grading at my club I passed meaning I am now 15th mon (top blue belt). During the grading, I had to demonstrate 2 throws, 2 strangles and translations for all of these. I also had to demonstrate some randori. Last month I competed in the Northern home counties where I came 5th. My next competition will be the Welsh Open.

World Junior Championships

I have just come back from the World Junior Championships, and we have achieved some incredible things. As a team, England came 9th which is the third time in 11 years we have done that so we were all exceptionally pleased. In the individual tournament, my mixed partner and I got to the last 32 and beat some really good pairs on the way from Chinese Tapei and Philippines. A lot of things to work on but incredibly happy with how my first World Junior Champs has gone.

A Strong Start to the Season

Well, the 2017/18 season has got off to a great start.

Not any big races so far - but back to training after the summer holidays with lots of technical drills.

Great news came last month as I was re-selected for the Beacon programme!

Packing now ready for the AASE camp in Tenerife on Wednesday, looking forward to refining my skills and some warm weather training.

Gold at the Welsh Junior (u21) Ranking comp

On Saturday I competed in my 1st Junior competition , this year I am able to compete in Cadets and Juniors .

It was a Ranking competition I had a small group but won both my fights which meant I achieved a Gold Medal and 100 Ranking points for the Junior ranking list this places me 3rd in the Ranking list which I am so happy about as the Juniors is what I will be officially in 1 year from now so it is great to gain some early ranking points by competing in both Cadet and Juniors

October 2017

This month I received the funding which has helped to pay the kit I need for the programme and I now feel as if I am apart of the loughborough sport which is now linked between the college and the uni. The training is heavy and the gym session but unfortunately I have picked up an injury and know recovering as quick as I can.

Getting a few PB’s

I have started doing some galas again recently and have felt like I am improving in the water. My 50s feel stronger and my 100s feel easier. I am on half term at the moment and have been putting in some extra sessions in the pool and the gym. All is going good so far...

Training with others.

I am lucky to be in Mallorca enjoying the last of the sunshine. I am here training with friends Alfie and Charlotte. Alfie rides a lot! His weekly mileage is easily double mine. I do the minimum training for the maximum gain. So its all efforts effort efforts with me - not so much Alfie. So this week I am doing something different - I am putting in the Kms - hundreds of them and its going to be super hard. I am hoping to do a 200km ride on one of the days - completely unknown territory for me.

First Cross Country race of the season

I ran as a guest at the North Midlands League on Saturday at Mark Eaton Park, Derby. It was my first xc race of the season and I had a bit of a cold, so needed to blow a few cobwebs away and have a decent run.

The plan was to sit back but push on the hill and see who came with me. Nobody did so I pushed on in and was pleased with the winning margin. There's definitely more to come and this has given me good confidence ahead of altitude training and the trials that will follow it.

National Inter-counties DTL

15 October 2017 was the National Inter-counties. I shot a new PB of 100/100 298/300. That was good enough for Junior high gun, A class high gun and joint 2nd overall. It was only my 2nd outing with a brand new gun so I was very pleased with my score. my 298/300 was part of the winning junior team with a total of 200/594. Leicestershire and Rutland county shooting team U21 are the national inter-counties champions!
