Posted: Wed, 02 Sep 2020 10:15

Applications have opened for employers to become part of the government's £2 billion Kickstart Scheme to create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people across the country.

The 6-month placements are open to those aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long term unemployment. They will be available across a range of different sectors in England, Scotland and Wales. The first placements are likely to be available from November.

There will also be extra funding to support young people to build their experience and help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart funded job.

Employers will receive funding for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions.

Funding is available following a successful application process. Applications must be for a minimum of 30 job placements. If you are unable to offer this many job placements, you can partner with other organisations to reach the minimum number. Further details and an employers guide.

Premier location for sport and physical activity

Leicestershire and Leicester is one of the premier locations for sport and physical activity in England, and can justifiably lay claim to being England's 'County and City' sporting capital. Leicestershire are leading the way with a Growth Plan for the Sport and Physical Activity sector.

In 2016 Sport and Physical Activity brought £37 billion into the UK economy.

Leicester and Leicestershire recognise the huge sporting strengths in our area and a dedicated Economy and Sport Growth Manager has been brought in to roll out 3 streams of work over the next 2 years.

  • Increase visitors to the area
  • Develop a 'Single Point of Access' for businesses motivated to grow and develop
  • Review career pathways and skills gaps within the sector

Andy Reed OBE (LLEP Board Member Champion for Sport & Physical Activity) said:

"Our Vision is to promote Leicester and Leicestershire as a premier, high performing location for undertaking the business of physical activity and sport"
