Rounders England School Competitions 2016

It's that time of year again when schools across the country battle it out to become winners of the Rounders England National School Championships (and Open Competitions – new for 2016!).

In June and July of this year, schools will come together to showcase their best Rounders players in the hope of being crowned champions.

Participants will see the introduction of two new Open Competitions, which will sit separately to the National School Championships.

Open Competitions are filled on a first come, first serve basis and unlike the National School Championships, do not have a qualifying route.

Qualifying to the National School Championships is preceded by locally organised competitions which can include anything from School Games to competitions organised by a group of local schools.

St Pirans School, Maidenhead, were winners of the Year 6 Mixed National School Championships last year. Katie Holmes, Head of Girls Games said:

"This was the first time we had taken part in this event and we were very excited but at the same time nervous about what the day held.

"We were really impressed with the standard of play, especially the hitting. Luckily for us we were making some big catches and striking the ball well. This enabled us to win our group stage."

A total of 41 schools competed in last year's championships, with only 4 coming out top; St Pirans School (Year 6 Mixed Champions), Wolverhampton Grammar School (Year 8 Mixed Champions), St Martin's School (Year 9 Girls Champions) and Wickersley School (Year 10/11 Girls Champions).

Katie said: "It was a wonderful afternoon of rounders with a great standard of play from all the teams. A big thank you to Rounders England for this great sporting opportunity for Year 6 pupils."
