School Games SEND Championships

School Games SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disability) Championships.

The School Games SEND Championships is a new addition to the Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport Schools' County Finals Calendar. It is a multi-sport inclusive event, tailored specifically to be appropriate to MLD and SLD students from special and mainstream schools across the network.

The event will be run to a 'Championships' format, with an opening ceremony for all athletes, followed by various competitions in Boccia, New Age Kurling and Sitting Volleyball, alongside a Wheelchair Basketball participation event and a Motor Activity Training Programme celebration.

As a culmination of ten local qualifying competitions, the event ensures that disability sport provision is formalised and accessible across all of our ten School Sport Partnerships through the great work of our School Games Organisers.

We hope that the Championships will showcase the value of disability sport and
provide an exciting and inspiring atmosphere for disabled young people to
enjoy and excel within sport.

In order to attend the School Games SEND Championships you must first have qualified from one of 10 local area round competitions, run by your local School Games Organiser (www.lrsport.org/sgos).

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games, now in its eighth year, is part of the national 'School Games Programme'. It aims to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best.

It is open to all young people aged 6-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds from every school across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland - therefore make sure your School gets involved!

Delivered locally by us here at Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) and the School Games Organisers (SGOs) in the 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs), the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games provides schools with the opportunity to enhance their existing work in school sport and create a year-round calendar of competition for all students.

We stage the County Final showcase events in the form of Championship events. Level 2 winning partnership school teams then compete at the Championships to be crowned 'County Champions' in their particular competition!

Make sure your School has the chance to qualify for the Super-Series Finals, by contacting your School Games Organiser (SGO).
