Health and Wellbeing: Part of Everyone’s Business

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a drastic change to the working practices of many businesses, creating uncertainty and worry. Therefore we believe it’s more important than ever that employees feel supported to look after their health and wellbeing at work.

Health and Wellbeing: Part of Everyone’s Business

There is no doubt that issues such as physical inactivity (caused in part by the increasingly sedentary nature of the workplace), a rise in the reported number of chronic health conditions, and the well documented increase in mental health illness and stress is having a negative impact on the productivity of workplaces. These issues impact not only the employee themselves, but the organisation as a whole, with poor employee health causing employers to incur financial losses related to sickness absence, presenteeism, and high staff turnover.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a drastic change to the working practices of many businesses and organisations. Coronavirus has created uncertainty and worry amongst many, and therefore we believe it's more important than ever that employees feel supported to look after their health and wellbeing at work. However, it can be difficult to know how best to support employees, when their needs and interests vary so significantly.

This Autumn, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) will launch the Wellbeing at Work Charter, a local accreditation scheme to recognise the efforts of local workplaces in Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland to support the health and wellbeing of their employees. To demonstrate your commitment to employee health and wellbeing, regardless of at what level or capacity this may be, LRS are inviting you to make a voluntary Pledge.

We want to be able to showcase the great work that our local workplaces are undertaking to encourage and embed healthy lifestyles amongst our communities and we invite you to hear more about how to get involved and support us to create a culture of healthy workplaces in Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland.

Part of the Leicester Business Festival and the LRS Annual Conference, this virtual event is aimed at business owners, HR professionals, line managers, and anyone with a remit around staff health and wellbeing for workplaces employing more than 20 employees.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of looking after employee health and wellbeing, particularly in a time where normal working practices have been changed drastically and many employers are facing uncertainty. They will also learn how to effectively implement workplace health interventions, utilising and hear from local employers who are leading the way in developing a positive culture around wellbeing in their workplace. Delegates will have the opportunity to sign the Wellbeing at Work Pledge to demonstrate their commitment to employee wellbeing.
