About Lead Community Play Practitioner

Parks for Play, a Kings Heath based charity and community champion gold award winner, has been connecting communities through inclusive play in parks, streets & clubs since 2004 The charity was created by parents and play experts to deliver affordable play sessions for children with disabilities or additional needs and their siblings. The organisation is seeking a service coordinator and a lead play practitioner to commence work in Mid-January.

Starting salary: £28500 pro rata Fixed Term 12 month with three month probation period

Hours of Work: Term time Saturdays 10- 5pm on site and three hours for preparation and evaluation Office and community based Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks pro rata

Holiday delivery: approximately 25 days per annuam10- 5pm on site and three hours for preparation and evaluation

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support a team to create stimulating risk benefit assessed environments for play and leisure providing a range of challenging enjoyable opportunities appropriate to the ages, stages of development and individual needs of participants.
  • Support full team participation in planning play and leisure opportunities, catering for children and young of diverse cultures, genders, disabilities and individual needs.
  • Support skill sharing and cooperative working to supply, set up, safeguard, store and flag up unsafe resources
  • Support and role model sensitive and appropriate behaviour towards children, young people and all participating adults at all times.
  • Support and role model thoughtful responses to individual interests and development needs when planning and delivering play/leisure opportunities, rigorously reviewing and balancing challenge and risk
  • Ensure that your team's play and practice sharing opportunities are offered within community settings in line with a proactive Equality policy rooted in child and person centred practice to engender an inclusive environment.
  • Ensure and support the completion of all ongoing feedback, monitoring and evaluation to evolve the framework for inclusive play/leisure, through individual and small group sessions
  • Record and deliver payments to service coordinator
  • Liaise effectively with all participating partners and undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the trustees and DSM manager

To lead and support the play team in their delivery of the following:-

Play and Youth Worker Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support children & young people to socialise with and alongside others.
  • To consult with children/young people and ensure that they are central to planning of opportunities.
  • To adhere to a policy of inclusion that is embedded in person and child-centred practice and supports equality of access for all children/young people whatever their specific needs.
  • To ensure the play and leisure sessions are welcoming and reflect the children/young people's cultural, religious and language needs.
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children and young people from differing cultures and religious backgrounds.
  • To develop and maintain productive partnerships with families to facilitate children and young people's personal development and meet their specific personal needs
  • To ensure that food provision is carried out within the guidelines of the food safety act 1990, and is balanced and healthy in accordance with dietary requirements.
  • To promote the aims and objectives of Parks for Play,
  • To be aware of policies and implement procedures and practices to support them.
    • To ensure the provision of good standards of physical and emotional care.
    • To support wellbeing through the provision of high quality opportunities for physical and emotional development
    • To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
    • To be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate to the needs of the children.
    • To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment, ensuring they are stored correctly and reporting and removing any worn/ damaged materials and equipment.
    • To encourage & support independence but where necessary to assist with the personal care needs of children and young people.
      • To ensure confidentially of information received.
      • To attend training offered and complete any necessary nationally recognised playwork, youthwork qualifications and undertake specialist training to meet individual needs
      • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Group Lead.
