About Invitation to Quote- To support delivery of the Opening School Facilities (Phase 2) Work

  1. 1. Background Information

1.1 In July 2019 the DfE, DCMS and DHSC published the School Sport and Activity Action Plan as a joint commitment to ongoing collaboration at national level to ensure that sport and physical activity are an integral part of both the school day and after-school activities, to improve pupil access and opportunity to school sport and high-quality PE lessons.

1.2 The Action Plan identified several priorities, one of which included support to help schools open their facilities after the school day and during school holidays. Active Partners Trust (APT) were involved in the delivery of Phase 1 of this work and now Phase 2 funding is available to build on this initial work.

1.3 The objective of this second stage is to support schools to open their facilities outside of the normal school day (evenings, weekends, and holidays) to allow young people more opportunities to be physically active.

1.4 Support / funding should be targeted predominantly to support schools with a high percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals, the least active and to provide more opportunities for pupils with SEND to take part in activities. APT will use local intelligence to identify schools that do not use, or only have limited access to, their school sport facilities outside the school day, identify the barriers to opening up their premises and facilitate solutions to support schools.

  1. 2. Scope, Outputs and Timescales

2.1 The work seeks to achieve the following:

  • Support secondary schools to open up their sport facilities outside the school day
  • Ensure that this is supported by a strong and varied offer of sport and physical activity that appeals to young people in the schools and communities being targeted
