Introducing Matt, one of our Active Together Champions!
Since lockdown, I've formed Sands United FC Ashby and the team has grown from 4 to about 20+ with socially distanced (where possible) training. Doing regular exercise has just made me feel better within myself, both mentally and physically. Being able to form the team and share our passion of football has increased everyone's mental well-being. I wanted to bring together guys who needed help and support following the loss of a child and we can do this through football. If anything, my activity levels have increased since lockdown eases, as the size and stature of the club has grown the training regimes have increased and I have also joined the gym to put myself through a sponsored cycle.
I get a really positive feeling from doing exercise and feel better within myself both physically and mentally. A need to help others drives me on to improve myself. However, our biggest challenge is that it has been difficult when partaking in a team sport to stay within COVID guidelines especially as a newly formed club and with people just wanting to 'get stuck in'!

Don't put it off any longer! It is easy to say I will start one day but exercise is just great for your physical, emotional, and mental well-being!
