Introducing Stephanie, one of our Active Together Champions!
I have stayed active by walking, running, and going on bike rides with my children. I would go for a social distanced run with a friend and take my children out on their scooters or bikes and for family walks following the current COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Being a qualified gymnastics instructor, I got family/friends involved in body weight exercises indoors, outdoors, and virtually. I posted virtual body weight classes which could be done indoors/outdoors for children within the Charnwood area to get involved in, this was great fun and I got my daughters involved within the filming which they found very exciting. Without being active, I would struggle with my mental well-being. So, doing an hour of exercise was essential for me in lockdown and would easy any tension/stress within this difficult time. What keeps me the most motivated is the way exercise makes me feel during and after activity and the enjoyment my family gets out of this. We all seem to have big smiles when we are keeping active and are generally happier individuals. I have also been back to the Gym and swimming pool now that they have reopened, which is something I had missed when in lockdown. I love the satisfied feeling I get when I have completed an activity. My most enjoyable activity is running outdoors followed by weight exercises in the gym. In lockdown I missed not being able to take my family swimming as this was our Sunday morning activity that we would all look forward to every weekend. We overcame this by going on long family adventure walks and bike rides.

My advice if you're thinking of getting more active:
Coming from a sporting background, I love to keep my body fit and active, so this is something that possibly comes easy to me. But I understand this is not the same for everyone so my advice would be to build your physical activity gradually and before you know it you will start to feel the benefits and there will be no stopping you. Getting active gives a great sense of achievement/satisfaction so get out there and give it a try and you never know what journey it will take you on.
