Exciting Cricket ‘runs’ riot at Super-Series Finals

Blaby & Harborough and Rutland stumped the opposition at the Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games Indoor Cricket Super-Series Finals, which took place 26th – 28th February.

The first day saw 9 Partnership teams compete in the Year 7 Boys Finals; with Crown Hills Community College (East Leicester) competing against Leicester Grammar School (Blaby & Harborough) in the final, with the latter taking the gold medal. Hastings High School (Hinckley & Bosworth) won the bronze medal and Castle Rock High School (North West Leicestershire) were awarded the 'Sprit of the Games Award' for their respect and teamwork shown throughout the competition.

Next up was the Year 7 Girls Final; with 5 teams battling it out during the afternoon of competition, with Catmose Community College (Rutland) beating Soar Valley College (East Leicester) in the final, with the silver medallists also picking up the 'Spirit of the Games Award'. Castle Rock High School (North West Leicestershire) and Castle Donington Community College (North Charnwood) shared 3rd place.

On the final day, the Under 15 Lady Taverners Finals took place with 6 teams competing. The final between Leicester Grammar School (Blaby & Harborough) and Soar Valley College (East Leicester) was very tight and won on the last ball by the Grammar School; with Longfield Academy taking the bronze medal. Castle Donington Community College were awarded the 'Spirit of the Games Award' on the final day.

Shiv Thakor, current Leicestershire first team cricketer who has also represented England at Under 19 level attended the finals to present the medals and trophies to the teams.

All the teams also compete for the 'Spirit of the Games' Award, which is awarded to the team who most encompasses the School Games Values of: Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-Belief and Teamwork.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games is part of the national 'Sainsbury's School Games' programme of competitive sport that is open to all young people in every school from across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. It is a celebration of competitive sport that involves young people aged 5-18 years, of all abilities and backgrounds.

The 10 School Sport & Physical Activity Networks within Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland compete at Intra-School (Level 1) and Inter-School (Level 2), to select a winning Team to represent their Partnership area at the Super-Series Finals or Spring/Summer Championships (Level 3).

All Primary and Secondary Schools across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland can get involved in the Schools Games, through the help of their PE departments and School Games Organisers (SGOs).
