#ThisGirlCan Charity Night Out brings girl power to North West Leicestershire

Our second 'This Girl Can Charity Night Out' on Friday 17th March saw over 150 women and girls enjoy a girls' night out with a difference.

Held at King Edward VII Science & Sport College in Coalville, the evening aimed to empower and celebrate active women and raised over £500 for local charity LAMP.

During the evening the ladies had the opportunity to try new activities such as Zumba, Yoga, Netball, Hula Hooping, Martial Arts and Legs, Bums & Tums, during the taster sessions available.

They were able to challenge themselves, and each other, at mini-activities in the Challenge Zone area at Golf, Table Tennis, Netball and create their own refreshing drink on the Smoothie Bike.

There was also a number Stalls promoting local health and fitness opportunities, health checks, massages and the chance to treat themselves to skincare, jewellery and craft products.

The disco lights were then turned on, the volume turned up, and the ladies got in the mood for a party with the Clubbercise session. They danced the rest of the evening away to club anthems and 90's classics, dressed in neon and waving their rave glow sticks!

Kate Scott, Sports Development Officer at Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) said: "The LRS This Girl Can Charity Night Out is the perfect combination of trying new activities whilst having fun with friends and family in a safe, social atmosphere. The aim of these events is to provide women with a choice of local opportunities and highlight that there is more to exercise than just keeping fit – it's about maintaining general health and wellbeing and enjoying themselves, however they want to do it".

This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. Helping women overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping too many women and girls from joining in.

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport and partners are advocating the countywide This Girl Can campaign with the aim to encourage more women and girls to get involved and enjoy sport and exercise.

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport and partners will once again be running a 'This Girl Can' Week, 5th-11th June 2017 – a week long campaign of activities and sessions across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
