The Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport Wellbeing at Work Charter is a new local accreditation scheme to recognise the efforts of workplaces in supporting employee health and wellbeing. A wealth of resources and support are available to help you take the first step today.

Coronavirus has created a great deal of uncertainty and the last 6 months haven't been easy for anyone, 'employers' included. Managing the speed of the change, the shift in demands for products and services and all the adjustments to everyone's processes, procedures and routines has demanded a lot from us all. It is more important than ever that employees feel supported to look after their health and wellbeing at work.

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, Public Health and our Local Authorities are launching the Wellbeing at Work Charter, which includes the opportunity for employers to pledge to support the wellbeing of their workforce. This in turn will go on to support the resilience of their organisations, families and our communities.

Employees spend 25% of their total hours per week at work, wherever they are working. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the personal and financial benefits of an improved workforce health and wellbeing, was well documented. In the current climate, individuals and organisations have a renewed and increased appetite for physical, social and mental wellbeing.

The Wellbeing at Work Charter is designed to support local workplaces across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland (LLR) to prioritise and promote employee health and wellbeing, by adopting an approach which works for organisations based on their employees needs, values and beliefs.

The Charter covers wellbeing in the broadest sense, including supporting people with long-term health conditions by encouraging a workforce culture that really values employee health and wellbeing. In turn we will see healthy behaviours embedded into our local communities.

The two levels of accreditation, the Pledge and the Award within the Charter, are suitable for organisations of all sizes and types, and will reflect your efforts to support employee health and wellbeing regardless of at which level that might currently be.

Bryany Cornish from Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport said "At a time when we all need to work together to prioritse our own health and wellbeing, it's great to be able to offer this step by step process which just starts with a Pledge."
