Ashby Sport is a collaboration between multiple sports clubs & associations in Ashby and the surrounding area to increase profile, engagement and participation across the community. The new collaboration will highlight and celebrate the range of sports activities and facilities available to the local population. Ashby Sport will also provide a central reference to explore opportunities only possible through collaboration.
The project already enjoys the support of 26 sports clubs and associations ranging from Cricket to Croquet. Club reaction and engagement has been fantastic with participation growing all the time. Ashby Sport is the brainchild of a small group of representatives from Ashby Town Council, Football, Rugby and Cricket who share a common interest in using alliance and collaboration to increase sports profile and engagement.
The action begins with the launch of the Ashby Sport online platform, comprising a fully interactive website representing each of the participating clubs and oodles of social media activity on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. With the help of local marketing company Kangaroo UK, the ambition and focus is to make Ashby Sport the go to, one stop portal for all sports in the town. Alongside the online activity, there is a range of other planned initiatives to build on the spirit of alliance and collaboration:-
Ashby Sport Festival in collaboration with REALfest. A fantastic fun day, planned for 3rd July this year and held in the centre of the town on the Bath Grounds. The event will provide an opportunity for each participating club to showcase their activity and celebrate the value of sport in the town. The action packed occasion will give the community the chance to sample different sports wrapped in a carnival atmosphere of music, food and refreshments hosted by the REALfest team. So, put the date in your diary and look out for further announcements nearer the time.
Fundraising. The collaborative footprint enjoyed by sport in the town is significant. According to figures released by North West Leicestershire District Council, 60% of people enjoy some kind of leisure or sporting activity. Ashby has a growing population and therefore offers an attractive commercial opportunity for the right, suitably sized sponsor with a similar community interest. Equally, the alliance is also a powerful platform from which to generate grant support or crowdfunding only made possible through collaboration. The entire enterprise is currently funded through kind donation from local community members and Ashby Town Council. With the support of commercial sponsors and the other events highlighted, Ashby Sport is forecast to be self-sufficient within the first 6 months. All financial transactions and accounts are managed by Ashby Town Council.
After such a difficult year, the Ashby Sport organisers sincerely hope that the whole town will get behind this exciting development and fully embrace the opportunities the wide range of sports have to offer. The community is invited to play a part immediately on social media. Please go crazy liking, loving, sharing all over Facebook, Twitter and Instagram whenever you can - let's get those numbers up quickly and spread the message.
Tom Yates, one of the organisers and Chairman of Ashby Hastings Cricket Club said: "Ashby Sport is a great initiative that brings together a whole range of sports from the area. It is focussed on providing information for the benefit of the local community. By working in collaboration it will enhance the profile of local sport and hopefully get more of the community involved"
