With England hockey still saying that hockey can be played the season has fortunately gone ahead. Training outside of hockey has not been as often due to hockey training becoming more frequent however I am still able to manage around 1-2 extra gym sessions on top of hockey sessions twice a week and a league game at the weekend.
Fortunately we have been able to get lots of games in before the season starts. Most of the teams we have played have been a league above us which has been a good test and a good way to enter the new season. With school already started getting to the gym has been a challenge but I am able to get 2-3 sessions a week done on top of hockey training. Looking foward to the first England U18 development squad training day at Bisham Abbey.
Having hockey moved to stage 4 we are now allowed to have training and games with contact. My first game for Belper HC was a friendly against Repton HC, unfortunately we lost 6-4 but was a good game for all.
Fortunately I have been able to get back on the pitch 2 times, although training is a lot different from what it is used to be with social distancing rules in place. To keep up with the fitness I have been running long distance runs such as 16 miles and aim for a full marathon soon.
Unfortunately, I havent yet been back on a pitch since the lockdown began. However due to the Y1 skiller mat I am able to keep some form of hockey going during this trying time.
As lockdown continues I have been set weekly challenges by the England U16 coaches, whilst trying to get onto a hockey pitch where possible to work on technical skills to help me improve as much as possible in this time.
During this lockdown, I have been managing 5 sessions a week, this may consist of S&C or running 5K for the NHS, whilst along side lots of stick and ball working on my skills , this will allow me to be ready once the lockdown is over.
