I have been able go sailing again in the past week, its been fun to get back on the water and resume my training in preparation for upcoming events. Although overnight stays are currently not allowed in England (so there arent any national events) i am enjoying sailing locally and at my club until i can travel further.
Since i have been unable to sail for the last few mounths i have been staying active by running, cycling and workouts. I have also had my laser dingy at home so i have done some small repairs and replacements that needed to be done. Hopefully i am able to get sailing again as soon as possible.
National lockdown means i can no longer go sailing, i managed to get quite a bit of laser and 29er sailing in over the christmas holidays, but for now ive been fitting in running and workouts around school. Hopefully we can get back sailing as soon as possible.
Last weekend i took part in some Laser training at Rutland sailing club, it was the first training i have been able to do in a long time so it was good to help me improve and allow me to focus on specific things i need to work on.
After Christmas we went for a sail on boxing day at Hollowell in my laser 4.7, although the wind was very shifty and gusty, we managed to do two races. The day after this we went out in the 29er, the shifty and gusty conditions made it difficult but it was good fun and we applied some techniques we learnt about from some zoom meetings a few days before.
Before we were back in lockdown we managed to get out a few more in our 29er, were still getting to grips with the new boat but weve learnt alot. We were ment to be going to Weymouth this weekend for some 29er training but unfortunately it has been cancelled along with anyore sailing at hollowell.
Two weeks ago, me and my helm got a 29er, its a bigger class of boat with a trapeze, we have sailed it few times and learned alot, but we still have alot more to learn.
I also compeated in the laser 4.7 junior nationals, where i was 6th overall and 2nd girl. At the beginning of the first day it was quite windy, so i didnt do very well, but as the wind dropped i did better, with all top ten results after discarding my first race.
Laser nationals were held in the last week of the summer, i didnt do as well as i hoped because it was very windy, but i'm competining in another event this weekend where i will hopefully do better.
Now that school is back and its getting darker earlier i'm only sailing on the weekends, but im making the most of the time i have on the water.
Last weekend was quite windy, but it was a nice, consistent direction so we got in some good sailing, on saturday i sailed the feva, and on sunday i sailed my laser 4.7 were i came 1st in one tace and 2nd in the other.
Laser Nationals are being held next week at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, i will be racing my laser 4.7 for 3 days. It will be nice to finally get back to doing events!
I have also started sailing my RS feva again with my helm , following the RYA guidelines to stay safe. We are competing at the feva inlands the weekend after laser nationals, in the meantime we have been training and racing alot at hollowell, and we won the thursday evening personal persuit race last thursday.
Now that lockdown measures have been eased, i've managed to get sailing again. Most events throughout the summer have been cancelled but my club has started running races again. ive been fitting in sailing most days around school work, and hopefully it wont be too long before i can start sailing the RS Feva with my helm.
Unfortunately i have still not been able to go sailing, but i have been cycling everyday, and usually running too. I have been doing a virtual sailing event online, but it is never as good as actually being on the water. Most of my events throughout the summer including worlds and nationals (which where ment to happen next week) have been cancelled, but worlds have been rearranged for the same place next summer! Hopefully i'll be back on the water practicing again soon.
During that last few weeks I have been unable to go sailing, but before then I had a national squad camp where we were preparing for the first main event of the season- the RS feva spring champs, but this event was unfortunately cancelled. The RS feva nationals that was due to happen in weymouth at the beginning of the summer have also been cancelled. But I have kept up with my fitness as best I can without actually sailing, and I hope to go sailing again as soon as possible.
