Training during winter

5th Feb, 2021

Over Christmas i was able to get to Derby arena to train on the track which was a big help due to limited track availability in corona times. Most of my training has been out on the road trying to get the base kilometres in before, if it happens, the season starts.

GBCT junior academy camps and trials.

3rd Dec, 2020

Across the last few months i have been on trial for GBCT junior academy. I have had two of these camps so far, one at the end of October and one at the end of November. On the camps they have a team pursuit focus and are tailored around this event. On the most recent camp in November i did a PB of 4:12.56 in a standing 4km team pursuit, besting my previous PB by around 3 seconds.

The new ‘normal’

13th Jul, 2020

At the start of lockdown it felt strange to be training without a definitive end goal to aim for. As we got further into the lockdown it became normal to train without a definitive end goal and instead finding new ways to push my self without being able to race. Finding new ways to do this has been really important for me to stay motivated and keep pushing my self to improve even through these uncertain times.

Training during lockdown

6th May, 2020

Even with being on lockdown, luckily for cyclists we are still able to train relatively normally with being able to train outside within the government restrictions. Also national championships which were scheduled for late in the season still have a possibility of going ahead which helps with keeping the motivation in times like these.

Eddie Soens memorial road race

13th Mar, 2020

First road race of the season for me. I got myself into the race winning break early on into the race. We spent 50km in the break with it eventually splitting up into a small group of 7 with UCI Europe tour riders. I ended up in the second group finishing 2nd junior and 18th overall

Apeldoorn the next generation 2020

27th Jan, 2020

Last week i went out to Apeldoorn to race in the next generation international track meet. It was a good experience to race against international riders on the track for the first time. I was happy with the results i achieved and the things i learnt whilst racing. Thank you to Scottish cycling for taking me to this race.

London 6 Day 1878 cup

31st Oct, 2019

The London 6 day was short lived for me and my partner. In the first 70 laps my partner had crashed twice, hitting his head in the second one quite hard. This meant we where unable to continue for the rest of the night and the last 2 nights which was a big disappointment for both of us but was the best decision considering my partners condition.

Dave creasy 6

25th Sep, 2019

I rode a support omnium at the dave creasy 6. This was my last race before i took a 2 week break to recover and recharge for 2 weeks. I won the scratch race by taking a lap solo and winning the bunch sprint. In the reverse win and out i took a lap in the last 3 laps and won the race. I also won the elimination race in a 2 up sprint. We also had an impromptu derny race which i put a 102' gear on and i was still spinning in which i also won. Therefore completing the clean sweep for the day in my first adult omnium.

National track championships madison

10th Aug, 2019

Me and my partner Josh Charlton got off to the best start possible by winning the first sprint after Josh timed his change with me perfectly allowing me to take the first sprint. 2 laps later, are race was flipped on its head when Josh was caught up in a crash. This meant i had to get back into the race without a sling and the uncertainty of how long i would last. 12 laps later Josh was back in the race. I was able to keep us on the lead lap but we had dropped to 9th overall. The comeback was on, we managed to pick up points to get back up to 4th before the final sprint. A perfect change on the last lap by Josh helped me to secure second in the sprint bringing us equal on points with 3rd and claiming the bronze on count back.

Scottish national track champs

26th Jun, 2019

My first race was the scratch race. We had driven up straight after my last exam to race. I managed to win the scratch race and take my first Scottish national title. the following day was the 500 and the points race. In the 500 i broke the Scottish record by over half a second and won the event. In the points race i had led until the final sprint where i miscounted the number of points i had, meaning i lost the points race by one point, a mistake i hopefully wont make again. The last event was the IP. In my qualifier i managed to break the Scottish record by 2 seconds only for it to be broken 5 minutes later by less than one tenth of a second and i qualified second fastest for the final. In the final i didn't have the legs and finished 2nd overall.

Herne Hill team champs

26th Jun, 2019

The day started off well for me qualifying fastest in the sprint competition. i then followed this up with winning my match sprint heat and the final to win my first event of the day. the second event of the day for me was the kerin, i won my qualifying heat by controlling the race from the front and holding them on my hip. in there final i was boxed in at the back with a lap to go and managed to force my way out and with help from my team mate Jack Pearson we controlled the front of the race which helped me take the win. The final event was the team pursuit we had the overall mostly sealed up at this point and we went going into the TP with hope of a fast time. We managed to win the Tp by the smallest of margins.

Isle of man youth tour

28th May, 2019

IOM is one of the hillier races of the year and started with a draggy uphill Prolouge next to the electric railway. I was 13th on this stage. the second stage was the hilly stage and i found myself in no mans land in-between the lead bunch. i finished down in 27th place and dropping down the overall standings. The last stage was run on the southern 100 motorbike course. it was fast all the way through. A break went with 3 laps to go and we never saw it again. I finished 13th in the sprint after i went early and tried to hold off the bunch in the tail wind. Thanks to RST/Cycle divsion for letting me ride for them that weekend.

Derby Youth omnium

22nd Apr, 2019

The day started out really well for me with a big PB for me in the kilo with a time of 1:05.91 and being the fastest rider by over 2 seconds. This set the tone for Elimination and Scratch race. In the Elimination i came over the top late and carried my speed over the top and won the sprint. In the scratch race i started my sprint early boxing the other riders in and taking the sprint with a lunge. I went into the points race leading with a small 6 point margin to second. After a close battle in the early sprints we went into the last sprint knowing whoever beat who would win the omnium. Unfortunately i got caught out when they attacked over the top of me and we finished the omnium on equal points but i lost on count-back.
