Racing again :)

31st Mar, 2021

I am starting to feel slightly nervous as racing approaches this weekend!

I have not raced since December and I have had a niggling medical issue for quite a while now so I have spent a few hours with an osteopath and have been following guidance by my sports therapist to get me in the best shape for racing to start. My coach has been training me hard and now I just need to race, I am nervous of how this will go and how I will fair against my competition - I will report back next week.

Sunshine miles and smiles!

28th Feb, 2021

I have been busy getting in the base miles for the last few weeks and I can't say what a huge relief it is to leave all the cold, wet weather behind for a few days and enjoy this lovely sunshine! Roll on the summer!

Training in lockdown again....

30th Jan, 2021

Well January has been interesting :(

With all races being cancelled in December we have entered another national lockdown and with restrictions on travel this has big implications on my training. As an off road cyclist I ideally need good terrain to practice my skills but from where I live I just can't access this so I just have to do what I can. During January I have trained through floods, hail, freezing temperatures and snow and to avoid the crowds I often train before school and before sunrise. Roll on spring!

Training with the best!

19th Dec, 2020

December has been busy. I have been lucky enough to attend two Cyclocross training camps this month. On the first camp I was able to train with Team GB members and coaches which was absolutely fab and the second camp involved a weekend stay with 15 of the best girls my age. We were trained by great coaches at great locations and even though the weather was awful I got loads out of it.

Skills training with the best!

22nd Nov, 2020

Just before the country lockdown again I was able to get some great training in firstly with a British Cycling Regional School of Racing which was held in Yorkshire and secondly I had a fantastic one to one training session with my coach Olympian Nikki Brammeier. We spent time practicing skills and drills in the pouring rain - it was great!

National Racing :)

30th Oct, 2020

I was slightly nervous but still excited to be racing again at a national but with so much uncertainty about my own form and how the others would be after lockdown. There was a massive field of entrants which is good for cylo cross but even more reason for my nerves with 53 other competitors. The weather couldn't have been wetter and the course became incredibly slippy before my race but I tried my best and came away with a second place. I am very pleased with that and it shows how hard I have worked to get this fitness level but I won't rest I am now focusing on skill as well as strength to improve my performance and I look forward to the next national race in December.

Racing :)

28th Sep, 2020

So excited to get some racing in my legs. Last weekend I had a busy weekend travelling to Bradford to race Cyclocross where I came second to my toughest rival and then on Sunday I travelled to Suffolk to race Cross Country Mountain Biking with a really good mixed woman's group and I felt strong to take the win after one hour 15 minutes of racing which is one of the longest races I have competed in. Confidence in my fitness levels is good and I am really looking forward to racing my first national race in six months next weekend.

Racing is back!

12th Sep, 2020

Last weekend I competed in my first race for nearly 6 months and it felt great to be back! It's been quite hard to train when you don't really know how it's going. There are quite a few cyclocross races now in September and October and even the odd mountain bike race even though that season has finished. I think I will be travelling all over the place to get some racing in but that's ok and it felt really good to take the win.

Downhill Fun!

19th Aug, 2020

I've just come back from a two week holiday in Scotland with my family seeing some friends and riding in some beautiful places. We did a tour of Scotland and one of the places we stopped at was Fort William. Fort William is well known for holding World Cup Downhill races and having really tricky and techy downhill runs, so me and my dad decided to give it a go and it was super fun (even the gondola trips up to the top!) absolutely loved riding in so many different places and with my friends and can't wait for racing to start again.

My longest ride ever!!

20th Jul, 2020

The sunshine was out for a little while but it's unfortunately gone back to miserable rainy England! Even though the weather is pretty poor at the minute, I made the most of the sunshine last week and rode to the coast!

My dad and I did the full 102 miles on our road bikes and my brother did the 50, all finished with a sunny beach walk with my family and some good old fish and chips.

I have also been doing a lot of running through lockdown to get ready for the upcoming Cyclocross season in October and have been improving every week with new PB's almost every run!

None of this would have been possible without your help, I hope everyone is staying safe and getting back into the swing of some things again and maybe getting used to the new normal thanks, Libby

Covid-19 Training Update

20th Jun, 2020

Nothing exciting has happened continuing on from my last blog, I'm still lucky enough to be able to train outside and now even with some of my friends- socially distanced of course! After having the same helmet for about 3years now, it decided to give in and a small part of the inside snapped, with the support of the grants of money I was able to put it towards a new one. I've done a few rides with my new one and I absolutely love it! Without your support it wouldn't have been possible, thanks and stay safe!

Roller 10!

17th May, 2020

As I am still lucky enough to be able to ride and train on my bike as usual or better in some cases, I have been doing some tests and have been improving. Recently I completed a 10 mile TT (time trial) and got a time of 17 mins 56 seconds, which is pretty good! I have improved my time from 2 years ago which was around 22 mins. My family and I are staying well and socially distancing and I hope you are all keeping well too.

Covid-19 Training Update

4th May, 2020

We are now 7 weeks into lockdown from Covid-19, I'm so lucky that I can still do my usual training indoors and out, as its part of my daily exercise! I'm stocked up with school work to do and kept nice and busy. There's not much to say really as everything's just been the same day after day. I have been getting involved with group calls with British cycling coaches and some challenges they set, I also am thankful for my wonderful family for supporting my training through these hard times, I have also been lucky enough to keep in touch with my friends through video calls and chats. Hope everyone is staying safe and social distancing!

Training early

11th Apr, 2020

When I have off road training sessions I often practice in woodland and rarely see anyone but at the moment everywhere is busy with people enjoying the sunshine and their opportunity to exercise. For now, it is easier to go out at sunrise or really early to avoid everyone. It might be chilly but it is definitely quieter!

New Coach!

29th Mar, 2020

For the last four weeks I have been riding and training with new guidance from my new coach. I have started to feel much stronger and better in the last two weeks and was really looking towards the summer season of road racing and cross country mountain biking. But now everything has changed since Covid 19 and I now have to concentrate on training smart as my goals have changed. Today on a cold and very windy day I opted for a Zwift training session one and half hours of the indoor training. Looks like I'll be training this way for a while...

HSBC National Cyclo Cross Championships - Shrewsbury

27th Jan, 2020

All my hopes for this cyclocross season rested on the national champs. The season had been ok considering, I finished 4th overall narrowly missing out on a series podium but to be fair I had to race the first two races not fit. Shrewsbury is notoriously muddy and this was no different and I can't say I loved the course but I gave it my all. Still not feeling amazing I really put everything I could into the race. Pitting every half lap it was such a challenge in those conditions. I finished 5th and I was disappointed with my result but 5th in the country isn't that bad really. On reflection I think I have over trained this couple of months just working my body too hard and when I needed the legs they were just too tired. I'm now having a couple of weeks rest!

Cylocross National Trophy Series & East Midlands Regional Championships

22nd Dec, 2019

Earlier this month I became the U16 East Midlands Regional Cyclocross Champion. I raced tired as I have been training hard on my endurance but I managed to win with a good gap and secure the title which I have won for the last four years in the various age categories. Last weekend I travelled to York to race the in the final round of the National Trophy series and I had high hopes of securing third place in the series. Sadly, it was not to be, in arctic and extremely muddy conditions I gave it my all which wasn't good enough on the day. I came in fifth which meant that I came fourth overall. I shouldn't be too disappointed as I started the series not fit due to my ankle injury in the summer so I have spent the season trying to catch up.

I've been busy!

30th Nov, 2019

Since my last blog I have been really busy racing the HSBC National Trophy Cyclocross events. I've had mixed results and faced fierce competition but I'm pleased with how the season has gone. The first race was Derby and I was still trying to gain fitness and settled for 7th next stop was Cumbria and I was pleased with 5th as my strength was coming back. Then all the way to Irvine on the west coast of Scotland and 2nd place for me, next to Crawley where I loved the course but hurt my ankle on lap one and had to stop - I was gutted! Well rested I travelled last weekend to Pembrey in Wales and desperately wanted 3rd but settled for 4th in a tough race. Next stop the East Midlands Regional Champs and then York and then the National Champs in Shrewsbury.

I am back racing nationals again!

26th Sep, 2019

After four weeks off the bike completely I started training and training hard to get my strength back. My first real test was the national at Derby, excited to be back I started well although gridded 24th out of 48 I had to fight my way through to the front group, this was short lived when a girl slid out on a corner taking me with her and ended with me going over the handlebars! I was quick to recover and bike and me were fine but the leading group had moved on and now I was chasing hard. I gave it everything I could and finished 7th which I am pleased with as this was my first U16 national race and I know I still have to gain strength back in my legs from the summer. Onwards to the next in two weeks time in Cumbria!

HSBC National Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships

6th Aug, 2019

Well, this was not planned for the end of my mountain Biking season. Whilst practicing the course the night before the championship race in Cannock I slipped in the rain and mud at very low speed which resulted in severe soft tissue damage to my ankle and included detaching a small piece of bone from my fibula. Devastated can't describe how I feel at the moment and this has put an end not only to my mountain bike season but to the opportunity to race in the UEC Mountain Bike Championships in Pila, Italy in late August. I'm so sad but determined to be back as soon as I can and I am working hard with my coach and sports therapist to get my ankle strong and be back on the bike very soon.

HSBC National Road Circuit Championships - Scarborough

17th Jul, 2019

At the beginning of July I raced in the HSBC National Road Circuit Championships in Scarborough. The race was only my fourth road national this year and the course is renown for an epic 12% climb which you have to tackle six times in the hour race. I knew it would be tough but quickly the peloton reduced to just a few very strong girls which each lap became less. On the final climb my biggest opponent attacked and I tried to go with her but she just got away leaving me to sprint it out with 3 other girls. I won the sprint and claimed the silver medal which I am pretty pleased about considering this is not my chosen discipline and I was racing against strong girls who just race road. Not bad for a mountain biker!

Minehead National Grand Prix

27th Jun, 2019

This was my first opportunity to race a criterium race and I knew this would be interesting and I wanted to improve on my highest road placing of 6th. I decided to attack throughout the race trying to string the field out and with four laps to go I went for my final charge and gapped the bunch, no one came with so I just put my head down and kept on riding. When I crossed the line for the bell lap I heard that two other girls had left the bunch and began the chase to get me. One of the girls was the series leader and a very strong sprinter so I knew I had to give it my all.As I came into the final straight I knew she was closing the gap, I gave it everything and she caught me on the line by a tyre width!

Hillingdon Road National Circuit Race June 2019

14th Jun, 2019

Only my second national road race and it's been a learning curve.

A great bunch of girls raced on a very hot day at a circuit in Hillingdon, London and although I am happy with my first national podium and 6th place I know I can do so much better.

Here's to the next one!

HSBC National Cross Country Mountain Bike Competition

29th May, 2019

HSBC National Cross Country Mountain Bike - Cannock Chase

This was the third race in the series for this year and I really wanted to a good result.

Although the first two races of the series I had achieved second place in both I knew I could challenge for first place if to I made no errors. Unfortunately this race was not to be, I struggled from the start not really feeling at my strongest and I fought hard but but felt my legs were just not with me today and finished third which in a National race is still very good.

Disappointed, I went back to my coach and I am now working even harder to raise my game and get that level of fitness back that I had.

With two National MTB races in June I am really looking forward to testing my progress.
