I have been training hard during the last couple of months in the hope that the National Championships and other competitions would resume soon. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty when gyms will reopen and when England Boxing will start operating. I last fought/sparred a year ago and have had to keep a strong mindset to continue well-planned home training to remain ready without peaking or burn-out. Working with a family member so have had the opportunity to mix the training up but desperately wanting the Lockdown to ease allowing the gyms to reopen and to work with other boxers and to start participating in competitions.
Now that the November Lock down has ended, it is great to get back to my routine S&C training with JW Fitness. With no immediate competitions or fights, I have been concentrating on strength work. I have been set weekly targets and I am proud to say that I am exceeding all of them. I am looking forward to getting back in the ring to demonstrate my increased punch power and overall strength.
Having got back into a brilliant routine; gym classes on particular days or set times - we are hit with a second lockdown. Although competitive boxing has been placed on whole my training was going excellent. As we have entered our second lockdown, I remain focused and want to maintain my motivation to train and keep my body and mind healthy and active. I have set up a month long home training plan which will include boxing and S&C training. Hopefully the lockdown will end on time.
When lockdown restrictions first started, the gym I attend was forced to close. I had to commit to outside training and at-home workouts in order to stay fit. Fortunately the gym has re-open now albeit with social distancing, but this has given me the opportunity to work alongside a coach and improve and develop my boxing skill set.
As lock down restrictions eased somewhat and some gyms allowed to open, I am very happy that I can continue with my routine strength and conditioning training under the guidance of a coach. Although maintaining physical distancing and following strict hygiene guidance, I was able to start with some strength and balance training which is integral to the sport of boxing. Looking forward to my strength and fitness development.
I have maintained my motivation to continue to routinely train during lock down. As a member of the England Talent Pathway, I also participated in producing a short video to be used on social media as part of England Boxing's 'Champions' Checklist feature. The idea was to pass a tip or idea that is helping me stay fit and active, or helping contribute to my diet and training , during the Coronavirus lockdown.
I demonstrated an excellent 'in and out' drill that enables phased attacks and improves footwork.

A massive thank you to GO GOLD funding which has helped immensely to equip myself with a few training essentials. In particular, a heavy bag which is a fundamental tool for boxers. In the absence of a coach, I have been training hard during lockdown. The bag work is a daily part of my training routine which is helping me to keep structure and improving my punching power, form and cardio.
