This month has been very slow due to the second national lockdown, but I have been making the most of it by training with the boys as well as the girls hockey teams whilst I am unable to play with my Club. Beeston sent me a fitness programme to do which I have been following whilst making good use of the school gym.
This month I represented Beeston in a couple of ladies EHL Premier fixtures, winning against Swansea 4-0, and drawing against the Uni of Birmingham the following weekend - a good start to the month. Unfortunately the following week I tested positive for COVID-19 which meant self isolating for the remainder of October. Since half term, I've been trying hard to regain some of my fitness and keeping up with hockey skills during lockdown 2.0.
Our 20/21 Premier League campaign began at home against a strong Hampstead & Westminster side losing 2-0. There were positives to take from this and more recently showed a lot of improvement against Swansea who we beat 4-0. It was a great game for us. Last Wednesday I had my first U21s GB EDP assessment training day. It was great meeting all the girls with a lot of fun hockey. School training continues and as first team captain this year, my main challenge is to keep everyone motivated despite not having a season full of fixtures that we're used to. We have our first fixture against Trent College on Thursday which we're all looking forward to.
As the summer ends, home training has slowed down and pre season training has picked up. My pre season started with a competition fixture against Wakefield in the Tier 2 U18 semi finals - rearranged from last season. I then head to first team training during the week as the next weekend was the tier 1 national cup final which we won. The following day I had the tier 2 U18 national final which we lost. Both games were really close ending in 3-2 score lines. I have also started school and had a U21/EDP call about return to training protocols due to covid. It's great to get back on the pitch. Thanks for the support
This month the England U18 season came to an end, and I completed my final IDP with my coach Sarah and mentor Leigh. Despite it not being the season we'd all hoped for, the coaching team have been amazing at keeping our spirits up and have made it as enjoyable as possible - thank you 🙏
My training has continued with a routine combining running with gym sessions. I'm lucky to have a nice area to do exercise in with beautiful views.
Emails have started to come through from my Club which means the new season isn't far away now. Cannot wait for pre-season training to start - have been off the pitch for too long 😩 I've also been allocated an assistant coach role with the U10 colts training at Beeston on Sunday mornings next season which am looking forward to. Not long now!
With home training continuing in quarantine and having weekly England challenges, this month has been the same. The U18 England squad had two weeks of challenges with the USA team with England coming out on top. Also, cooking classes, making healthy snacks as team bonding as well as special guest talk from Maddie Hinch telling us her story of determination to get to where she is now. Luckily I have been privileged to get back on the pitch for a hit about thanks to Oakham School.
As lockdown continues, I'm starting to loose motivation but luckily I have weekly challenges set by the GB EDP which helps me have a reason to keep going out and run. The weather also helps a lot as it's so warm, evening sunset runs are beautiful. Recently taken up going golfing with my parents - they tell me I get my technique from playing hockey. My last virtual England camp included a lot of analysing the seniors games, a talk from Kate and Helen Richardson Walsh and an S&C session with current GB player Esme Burge. Before that I also had an evening optional talk from Mark Hagar the women's international coach and current player Tess Howard, all current legends giving a lot of useful advice.
Big thank you to LRS and the Go Gold programme for your financial support 😁👍🏑🏃♀️
The Country has been in lockdown for 6 weeks now and there have been some notable highs and lows during this time. Am gutted not to be able to play in my first season with the U18 England Hockey squad but the time has given me a chance to fully recover from glandular fever, which I was diagnosed with in Feb. Despite my local park (Rutland Water) being closed I've managed to develop a solid training routine combining road running with home based s&c every other day. Am also still in touch with my England Hockey squad through virtual sessions - the coaching team have been great in keeping our spirits up and because the Euro Champs in Russia this year have been cancelled, we're collectively running the distance we would've travelled to raise funds for the NHS and MSF.
Many thanks to the Go Gold Funding Programme for your support.
