I have been recovering from an ankle injury, and I had my first session in 3 weeks last thursday. I have a four day England camp over the Easter weekend, which i very much so look forward to. I am also looking forward to start training back with Loughborough in the next few weeks.
I am still continuing to train at home, in the garage gym setup and runs. Also we have had some zoom calls over the past few weeks with the England team, including workshops about mental skills. We are looking to get back to national league games after Easter, so hopefully can be back out on the pitch then!
As we are back in lockdown, as a squad we are unable to train on the pitch, therfore we have had many online calls with the England and Loughborough squad. I have also set up a gym in the garage, so have been doing daily sessions in there so i can keep in peak strength and fitness for when i return.
Last sunday, at lilleshall sports centre, I had a England u18 assessment camp. It is an assessment camp before selection comes out in the new year. I then have another training day next sunday at Bisham Abbey, which is my last bit of sporting activity before Christmas and the new year.
As Loughborough students 1st team, in the national league, we have had a very strong strong start to the season, winning 5 from 5, putting us top of the league so far. However the game this weekend was cancelled as we were playing Cardiff, but they were unable to play because of the Wales lockdown.
I havent had any more England camps since my last blog, but we have a couple trial camps in November.
At loughborough, we have had a very full on pre season for the previous 6 weeks, including training around 5 days a week and gym sessions throughout the week to prepare for the start of the season. We have also played 3 pre season games, winning 7-2 in all 3 of them.
I have also had 2 England camps at lilleshall and Bisham Abbey, where we are just getting back into the programme after the lockdown period.
Training is starting to begin with the loughborough students hockey. We are training in groups of 6 and working on none contact skill based stuff to get back to how we were before lockdown, and in preperation for the actual pre season to start in late August.
In the next few weeks, i am going to start getting access to a pitch for the first time in lockdown, so I can start getting back to playing Hockey regularly to prepare for the new season!
As lockdown continues, I am trying to remain at peak fitness and keep my hockey to the standard it was at before lockdown. That includes making the most out of the challenges that are set by the U18 England coaches.
I have been training at home, which includes strength and conditioning and alot of stick and ball work. So when i go back to playing, I will be still be at the standard i need to be at to compete.
The club season is coming to an end and i have a game against Leeds and it is important to get the win so we can have a solid finishing spot in the league.
The 2nd half of the season in just beginning. Also I had an England hockey U18 2 day camp where we played some practice matches to prepare us for the first set of the international games, against Ireland in February half term.
The half season of hockey has now finished until the new year. Up until then I only have an England camp on the 21st and 22nd in Loughborough. I look forward to start the 2020 off well!
Over the past month, I played some more games for Loughborough Students first team in the National league, we played against Peterborough who we beat 4-2 and then played against Leeds who we also beat 4-2.
I also had a tough two day England u18 selection camp in London at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis centre. I was very glad to hear I was successful in selection for the England U18 squad and I look forward to many more camps and games to come.
This month I played my first national league hockey games of the season with Loughborough Students. In the first game we played Durham Uni and won 2-1. Then the next week we played Cardiff, we lost the game 5-2 but it was still a great experience.
This week i have a 3 day training camp with England U18 at Lillehsall.
Earlier on in the month i had an England U18 assessment camp, which was done over a period of 3 days at Lilleshall. Thnakfully i got through to the next assessment camp that takes place in October.
I also player for Loughborough Univeristy 1st team against Uni of Birmingham and Havant. We drew 2-2 and then won 2-1!
Sadly I picked up an ankle injury that put me out of hockey for a few weeks, but I am back fit again, ready for my first England u18s camp of the year.
Earlier on this month, I was selected for the U18 6 Nations tournament featuring, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Ireland. I was immensely proud and surprised to be selected for this tournament and it was an amazing experience.
I played 2 warm up games in preparation for the tournament against Belgium in Canterbury.
The 8 day tournament took place in Eindhoven, Holland at the prestigious Oranje Rood Hockey Club. I left the tournament as top goal scorer for England and we finished in 3rd place with respectable wins over, Ireland and Germany, also drawing to Spain and Belgium. We narrowly lost to the hosts, Holland.
I now have a few weeks off and start pre-season with Loughborough Students in August
June has been a quiet month in terms of sporting activity, I have been mainly stuck inside and at home doing revision. However now that i'm done, i will be playing much more hockey!
I recently had an England training day on the 22nd of June in preperation for an exciting test series vs Germany commencing on the 28th of June.
Over the Easter weekend we played a three-match series against Holland at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall. Unfortunately we narrowly lost all of the matches, but we were competitive in every game against one of the best junior international hockey teams there is. From a personal point of view, I was pleased to add 3 goals to my tally.
Last weekend I was invited to attend the England U18 boys training camp. It was a tough camp but also very enjoyable.
We have more training camps coming up and then the U16 boys will play against Germany at the end of next month.
Thank you LRS/GoGold for the very beneficial athlete funding!
On the 21st,22nd and 23rd of February, I captained England U16s to a series win against Ireland U16s. We won all of the games, 5-2 (scoring 1 goal), 3-1 (scoring a hat trick) and finally 3-1 again. I came out the top goalscorer for the England U16s.
I have games against Holland over the Easter weekend. This is likely to be a tough test against one of the top teams in the world, where I look to score more goals.
