What is Mountaineering?

Mountaineering can involve a combination of hill walking and scrambling to climb a mountain.

It can also include ski mountaineering. Where scrambling involves elements of both hill walking and rock climbing.

Facts

  • Mount Everest is the largest mountain in the world at 8848m high and grows by a quarter or an inch every year.
  • It takes 40 days to climb Mount Everest to give the body enough time to adjust to the altitude as there is 66% less oxygen in each breath on the summit of Everest than at sea level
